Press and Radio

There are many good sources of information in the Kickapoo Watershed. Some are more progressive than others, but all provide a view into the valley.

On the way progressive side are two radio stations and a local radio program:

  • Radio_Driftless provides webstreaming of progressive content.
  • Progressive, liberal voice for over 31 years in SW Wisconsin - The Hello Neighbor Program on WVRQ-AM/FM, 102.3 FM, in Viroqua, hosted by Karen Dahl
  • On a less local, but very popular, note there is WORT community station out of Madison that also webstreams and carries important state news and views. Word is that all the hippies out in yonder hills had "WORT sticks" that tried to pick up the signal. I live in Viroqua and it can be done with the right equipment.

There are also some newspapers that cover events pretty thoroughly.

  • The Kickapoo_Free_Press has a more progressive slant
  • The Vernon_County_Broadcaster has a more traditional approach
  • There are also smaller papers without web links, but they include the La Farge Episcope and Hillsboro Sentry Enterprise, Gays Mills Crawford County Independent and  Kickapoo Scout.

  • A great progressive newspaper in the state is the CapTimes out of Madison.
  • Local bulletin board for want ads and venting is MWT.net
And of course there is KickTime.org that covers the progressive news and events in a collaborative community webspace.

Good point. I overlooked it because they have no web presence. It would be nice if they did post major local stories on a website. You could add the information about them to the wiki, but I will look it up and get it added. Thanks for the good idea.
